Emergency or immediate help

If this is an emergency,  and you feel you or someone else is at risk of suicide or harm, phone 111

or

Auckland, Wellington,  Hutt Valley or Dunedin crisis teams (click on your area)

or

For other regions contact a Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (CATT) by:

  1. In the front of your phone book, turning to the last green-striped section titled Hospital & other health service providers.
  2. In that section, look for a listing for the local hospital or District Health Board and locate Mental Health services, or, in some cases, Psychiatric services.  Phone that number and ask for advice.
  3. In some areas there may be a listing for CATT or a Crisis Assessment Team.  If so, phone the number given.  If there's no response (after hours), then phone the hospital's main number and ask the operator for ‘emergency mental health services'.
